Breakthrough in the Corruption Investigation in Belgium

The football manager Dejan Veljkovic is ready to co-operate with Belgian authorities investigating criminal activities in football in exchange for a lesser verdict for himself, Belgian National Agency said. Veljkovic, who was involved in a criminal organization for match fixing, money laundering, and football corruption, was released under certain conditions by the Chief Regional Court of Limburg.

The agent is considered to be one of the two important figures in the match-fixing scandal in Belgium, where he also has a solid dossier of documents and fictitious transfers. In October, police in the country carried out 44 invasions of offices in Belgian football clubs according contacts with live matches and established a relationship with teams and people from the football lives of other European countries.

At that time, the prosecutor`s office said he was conducting a one-year investigation of suspicious financial operations in the world of professional football, which has revealed signs of a possible impact on matches in the previous season. Veljkovic has already made a comprehensive statement about his involvement in criminal schemes and may become the first convicted person in Belgium to take advantage of the newly created prison release program for up to 5 years in prison and replacing him with a fine of 80, 000 euros.
